THE MUSIC OF POETRY…

I try to let words sing in my narrative fiction. Their rhythm and flow is important to me and to the reader’s silent ear. The music within the words communicates as much as the words themselves. So I choose each word carefully. And I listen to how they all work together in phrases and sentences. It may be narrative writing, but for me it’s also music.

And then there’s poetry. I’m not a poet, not by any honest definition. I consider poetry one of the most sophisticated art forms. It requires the distillation of imaginative language to its leanest and purest expression. To accomplish that end is a discipline I admire.

So I do occasionally write a poem when inspiration hits and I feel capable of wrestling with the form. Most remain hidden in a drawer, where they belong. What follows are a few I deem worth sharing. If readers appear to enjoy them, I may add more in time.
