Enjoyed visiting with you, too, pardner. And great to see Lois. As rubber chicken dinners go, it was a good one (I get to very few such dress-up festivities). We'll play some blues next time. Course, it'll be faux blues because we really got so little to complain about!

All best, C

Hey daddy-o, it is great to have you in that club, and that was one of the main reasons I attended this year. It was good sitting with you during the rubber chicken dinner too. Sorry we didn't get to play any blues while you were here.

In reply to <a href="https://www.christopher-cook.com/gone-to-texas-the-institute-of-letters/#comment-763">Mary Ann Carrier</a>.

What a wonderful surprise, Mary Ann, hearing from you! And thank you for the lovely note. Well, as I've often said, I was terribly fortunate to have you for my first English teacher. I couldn't have asked for a better teacher (and person) to begin focusing my adolescent attention toward clarity of expression in writing. (I also, of course, had a bit of a crush on you, and that does help motivate. I never told you that, but the secret's now out!) Glad to hear you are still anchoring that corner by the park, and perhaps one day I'll be able to stop by and say hello in person. Thanks again!

As ever,

I am so pleased about your induction into TIL. Jane McBride wrote about you in today's Beaumont Enterprise. It took me back about 50 years to a seventh grader at PNJHS. Winnie Brown and I were so confident of your ability to become whatever you dreamed to be. Winnie loved students and Texas...this would please her immensely. We still live on our corner...getting ready for annual Festival in the park. While I was director of the Library here in PtN, we purchased all your books available. I need to be sure the collection has second copies in the reference area. All the best to you. As always, MACarrier

Gracias, Beth. It's especially meaningful to hear that from one of the best teachers I ever had the pleasure of studying with. You surely know how much I appreciate you for helping me get through that final high school year!

This is big news. I am very excited for you, Christopher. The TIL members have selected a well-honed writer into their group. You certainly deserve the honor, but I do hope a few pranks await the "Newbie".
